About
Lee Ritenour or "Lee Mack Ritenour" in real life was born on January 11, 1952 in Los Angeles, California. At five years old, Lee began playing the guitar. He was under the tutelage of Duke Miller, head of the guitar department at the University of Southern California at the age or 12. As an adolescent, Lee played in his first group, the Esquires, a precursor of a series of teenage bands. In 1967, he played his first session with "The Mama's and The Papa's. He was hired by "John Phillips", the leader of the group when he heard the voice of Lee. Two years later he was backing Tony Bennett and Lena Horne at L.A.'s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion called "Captain Fingers". After that, Lee chooses to continue his education. He attended at the University of Southern California. He studied classical guitar. He studied for two years and dropped out from school because he was given the opportunity to play with Brazilian pop-jazz musician Sergio Mendes.
In 1975, he went solo and released his debut album, First Course. He released his next album, Captain Fingers in 1976. His album, Rit is his most notable work, which features the chart hits, "Is It You" and "Mr. Briefcase". From that time on, he produced more than 30 albums like, The Captain's Journey in 1978, Rio in 1979 and Portrait in 1987 among others. He formed his band, Fourplay in the 90's together with "Bob James". He left the group in 1998 and continued his solo career. His album, Rit's House was released in 2002. His latest album, Smoke 'N' Mirrors was released in August 2006.
