Lea Salonga is a Filipino singer, actress and Broadway star. She is one of the Philippines' Best Selling Female Artists.
About
She was born Maria Lea Carmen Ituman Salonga on February 22, 1971 in Angelas City, Philippines. She is the oldest out two children born to Feliciano Salonga and Ligaya Ituman. At the age of six, she moved to Manila. In Manila, she starred various plays at Repertory Philippines. At the age of 10, she signed a TV and record deal. Her debut album, Small Voice was released in 1981. Small Voice was followed-up in 1988 by her sophomore album, Lea.
International breakthrough
She joined the cast of "Miss Saigon" for the UK production of the show. She later starred as the lead in the Broadway play "Les Miserables". For her role in "Miss Saigon" she won the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical. She was the first Asian/Pacific Islander actress to do so.
