About

Laura Pausini was born on May 16, 1974 Solarolo, a teeny city of Emiglia-Romagna, north of Italy. When she was only eight years old, she began to sing with her father in piano bars. At the age of thirteen, started her career when she released her first album I sogni di Laura. This album was a live album, something extraordinary, a semi-professional release produced by her father in 1987. On February 26, 1993, she joined a singing contest at the Italian Song Festival in San Remo. It was there that she showcased her tremendous singing talent with the song "La Solitudine," as she won the competition and the song went platinum. This was the beginning of a music sensation.

She signed a recording contract under Warner Music Italy to release her self-titled debut album in 1992. It was released in Australia, Europe and Japan and sold over 2,000,000 copies. It topped the music charts, not only in Italy, but several countries worldwide. She recorded a special rendition of La Solitudine for the English speaking market. The album features the singles, "La solitudine" / "La soledad" which chartered #1 on The Italian Singles Chart and #1 on U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play and "Strani amori" / "Amores extraños" landed #5 on U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play and #2 on Italian Singles chart. The album was so successful that made her a household name in the Spanish-speaking world. Her song "Se fue" was one of the most played songs of 1995 according to the Hot Latin Tracks chart of Billboard. The album went platinum.

Laura Pausini had sold over 25,000,000 albums just a decade after making her debut at age eighteen. This is sensational, as she had not yet broken into the English speaking market. Over 16 million copies were sold worldwide from her previous next four album, Laura in 1994, Le Cose Che Vivi in 1996 under Warner Music, La mia risposta and Tra Te E Il Mare in 2000. In October 2001, she released her first compilation album, The Best of Laura Pausini: E ritorno da te, raising her total albums sold figure to more than 20 million copies.

In 2002, released her first English album, From the Inside under Atlantic Records. It features the single, "If That's Love" which chartered at #1 on Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. In the same year she sings for the Nobel Price benefit concert and as well for the 9/11 victims. In 2004, she released her next album, Resta In Ascolto and once again hit the top of the music charts. The album was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Album in the Latin Grammy class in 2005. Her next album, Lo Canto was released in 2006.

In November 8, 2007, Laura won a Latin Grammy Award for the best female album with Yo Canto, spanish version of the album 'Io Canto', with sales of over 2 million copies worldwide. Laura dedicated the award to the memory of Italian legend Luciano Pavarotti. Her latest album, San Siro 2007 was released last November 2007.
