About
Laura Pausini was born on May 16, 1974 Solarolo, a teeny city of Emiglia-Romagna, north of Italy. When she was only eight years old, she began to sing with her father in piano bars. At the age of thirteen, started her career when she released her first album I sogni di Laura. This album was a live album, something extraordinary, a semi-professional release produced by her father in 1987. On February 26, 1993, she joined a singing contest at the Italian Song Festival in San Remo. It was there that she showcased her tremendous singing talent with the song "La Solitudine," as she won the competition and the song went platinum. This was the beginning of a music sensation.
She signed a recording contract under Warner Music Italy to release her self-titled debut album in 1992. It was released in Australia, Europe and Japan and sold over 2,000,000 copies. It topped the music charts, not only in Italy, but several countries worldwide. She recorded a special rendition of La Solitudine for the English speaking market. The album features the singles, "La solitudine" / "La soledad" which chartered #1 on The Italian Singles Chart and #1 on U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play and "Strani amori" / "Amores extraños" landed #5 on U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play and #2 on Italian Singles chart. The album was so successful that made her a household name in the Spanish-speaking world. Her song "Se fue" was one of the most played songs of 1995 according to the Hot Latin Tracks chart of Billboard. The album went platinum.
