The album was released on September 1, 1983 by A&M Records. It landed at #1 on the UK Albums Chart and #8 on the US Albums Chart. The album features the hit singles, "Red, Red Wine" which chartered at #1 on the UK Singles Chart, "Cherry Oh Baby", "Many Rivers to Cross", and "Please Don't Make Me Cry".


In 1989, it was ranked #98 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s.
