About

Krystal Meyers was born July 31, 1988 in Orange County, California. Her family later moved to the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee when she was six. Krystal started writing songs at the age of ten and was playing guitars at age thirteen. By the time she was sixteen, she already had her first self-titled album.

The summer prior to her freshman year in high school, Krystal went to a Christian summer camp where she wrote "Anticonformity" with a friend. After playing the song for the camp's talent show, Meyers was asked to cut "Anticonformity" for the Barefoot Republic Camp's benefit CD. She later got signed under Provident Label Group's Essential Record and released her self-titled album in 2005.

Krystal Meyers' debut was produced by Ian Eskelin and the Wizard of Oz production team, the same team that worked with Avril Lavigne and Liz Phair. Meyers' first album is oftentimes likened to Lavigne, even tagged as Lavigne's Christian counterpart. Although Meyers have said that she deliberately tried not to follow Avril Lavigne, listeners find the comparison unavoidable.

Since her initial release in 2005, not only did Meyers' gain a successful entry in the US, she has also become a sensation in Japan. She has been back to Japan three times, owing to her song "Anticonformity" which bolted her popularity in this side of the map. Besides the song reaching the No. 1 slot, "Beauty of Grace", a single from her succeeding album, is likewise doing well in Japan charts at No. 2.

Krystal Meyers released her second studio album, Dying for a Heart in September 19, 2006. The album is said to be a more aggressive, rock record compared to the popsier debut, with messages tackling teenage dilemmas such as pre-marital sex and peer pressure. The first single from the album is "Collide."

Reviews

Youthful spunk, emotionally laden vocals and instrumentation, edgy style and rock-pop vibe make Krystal Meyers a hit among the younger bunch, together with her peer-oriented themes and lyrics. And what made Meyers absolutely click to the Japanese audience, beating seasoned pros on the top hit charts? In a culture where walking dolls, lolita fashion, kawaii girls and boys and unconventionally hip juveniles roam the streets, a song aptly describing these kids which can serve as their theme would be a surefire hit. Meyers' "Anticonformity" did just that.

Among her teen counterparts, Meyers is into the more rock boundary, although considering her youth, she can't avoid being attached to the pop status. With time and approach, its definite Meyers will outgrow the girly pop/rock and become a true rocker--with God-given talents, an unchanging faith and fierce enthusiasm to share the gospel. --jamie 15:39, 15 February 2007 (PST)
