[edit] About
Gene Simmons who was born in August 25, 1949 at Haifa, Israel and Paul Stanley born on January 20, 1952 at Queen, New York City formed a band called Wicked Lester. They recorded one album but was shelved by Epic Records because they not gain any success.
In 1972, Gene and Paul abandoned Wicked Lester and began forming a new group. In late of that year, Gene saw an ad in Rolling Stone which was advertised by Peter Criss, a veteran drummer from New York Club and born on December 20, 1945 at Brooklyn, New York City. He joined Gene and Paul for the new version of Wicked Lester".
In 1973, the three added Paul Frehley who was born on April 27, 1951 at Bronx, New York City to be their lead guitarist. Few weeks later, they dropped the name Wicked Lester and formed a new logo which they called Kiss. In the later part of that year, the band signed a recording contract under Casablanca Records.
In 1974, they released their self-titled debut album. Despite their publicity and concert tour, their album sold only 75,000 copies. Their recording company was losing money. Their second album, Hotter Than Hell released on that year was not a success either.
In the late 1975, the band was in danger of losing their recording contract under Casablanca Records. They released their first live album Alive it was a big hit and achieved quadruple platinum status. The success of their live album saved Casablanca Records to bankruptcy.
More live and studio albums were released. In 1980, Peter left the group. Peter was replaced by Eric Carr who was born on June 12, 1950 at Brooklyn, New York City.
On August 11, 1999, Kiss was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Recording Industry category. In 2003, Peter rejoined the group.
Through major line-up changes, evolving popular music, Kiss has survived into the 21st Century with a massive fan base, millions in sales. They may not be the most critically acclaimed act of all time; they remained one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the world.
