About
Killing Heidi began in 1996 by sibling, Ella and Jessie Hooper. They were raised in a small town just outside Melbourne and Sydney called Violet Town which had a population of 2,000. Their parents worked as drama teachers and musicians. Both were exposed to limited source of alternative music. The sounds of Triple J reached Violet Town. Jessie loved the sounds of Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins while Ella was into Veruca Salt and Hole. In 1996, the duo played in the arts festival in their town. They also played two of Ella's orginal compositions. A local studio owner offered the siblings to play at his studio for free. This resulted to a demo which they gave to Triple J's competition which they won.
The single "Kettle" recieved non-commercial airplay which impressed producer Paul Kosky. He ended producing and managing Killing Heidi. Towards the end of the 90's, they added Adam Pedretti (drums) and Warren Jenkin (bass) to the line up. The band sealed the deal with Roadshow Music with the singles "Weir" and "Mascara". The second single topped at the charts for four weeks. It was followed by the release of their debut album, Reflector, in 2000 which peaked at #1 and gained double platinum.
