About

Early Life

R&B singer Keyshia Cole was born on October 15, 1983 in Oakland, California. She was forced to think maturely since she was surrounded by drugs and violence during her childhood. Cole found strength in music. At her teen years, she formed a duo with a friend. She would call MC Hammer at his office everyday until Hammer picked up the phone and gave them a shot.

Early Career

All through the 90’s Keyshia spent her time practicing and perfecting her voice. In 2001, she did a duet with Messy Mary’s “Nubian Queen”. The rising singer had a second thought moving to Los Angeles where the window of opportunity is wider. She caught her boyfriend with another woman and instantly left for L.A. When she arrived in the big city, few months after she started meeting the right kind of people that would make her career blossom. Keyshia made a good impression on Ron Fair, president of A&M Records. Fair signed gave her a contract. She got a pen right away and started writing her songs for her debut album. She worked with Kanye West on her upcoming album. West produced the single "I Changed My Mind" and released it as a single. She toured extensively with West and Usher to make her name well-known and to show the people what she is all about. In 2005, the long-awaited debut album, The Way It Is, was finally issued.

Reviews

The rising star Keyshia Cole has one of the best voices I’ve heard in the music industry today. She is the ghetto version of Mary J. Blige. Cole’s ghetto style makes her unique and real. Kanye West and Cole make a great team and they have the best material. --Mimi 08:45, 8 March 2007 (PST)

I think Keysha Cole is one of the best singers in the world. She's really gonna be the next Mary J. Blige. They already call her "The Princess of Hip Hop Soul", and that's not without a reason. --Phunky Lil Diva 1991 19:43, 28 April 2008
