Katharine McPhee is an upcoming American pop singer who rose to fame on the fifth season of the television show American Idol in which she became the first runner-up. His single, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" became an instant hit. She is the next upcoming American Idol star who will be watch when her self-titled debut album Katharine McPhee will be release this coming January 30, 2007.

Katharine McPhee was born on March 25, 1984 in Sherman Oaks, California to Peisha McPhee and Daniel McPhee. Katharine's mother was a vocal coach and accomplished cabaret singer and actress ,while her father was a television producer. Her mother influenced and trained Katharine in voice and performance.
When Katharine was still attending in Notre Dame High School, she was a student body vice president, varsity swimmer and a thespian. She also performed in school plays with her elder sister Adriana. They were both nominated Homecoming Princess in their senior year.
After graduating in High School, Katharine attended in Boston Conservatory majoring in Musical Theatre for only three semesters. She was convinced by her manager to try out for television pilots in Los Angeles so she decided to drop out from school. She was cast in the 2006 musical film about the life of Hank Garland entitled Paramaount Girl. She also played Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun Musical production. Katharine was nomitated for an L.A. Ovation Award for Lead Actress in a Musical for Annie Get Your Gun. She also the lead actress in other Musical Play The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.
Katharine was persuaded by her friends to auditioned for American Idol. When American Idol went in San Francisco, she tried her lack and sang "God Bless The Child". All the judges were impressed upon her performanced in the audition period. She was selected in the Top 24 Semi-Finalist. Katharine emerged as the runner up to Taylor Hicks.
In June 2006, She signed a recording contract with RCA Records. Her debut single "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was released on June 27, 2006 and chartered number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the Tournament of Roses Parade, which was held last January 1, 2007, Katharine alone with her former American Idol finalists Lisa Tucker performed at said event. Her self-titled debut album was released in January 2007.
