Kate and Anna McGarrigle are Canadian songwriters. Most of their songs were included in the albums of various artists. They quit entertainment industry for a while and returned via their comeback album Heartbeats Accelerating.

Kate and Anna Mcgarrigle are sisters. Both were born in Saint Sauveur Des Monts, Northwest of Montreal. Anna is the eldest because she was born in the year 1944 while Kate was born in 1946.
Both sisters are songwriters. Their songs are included in the albums of various artists such as [[Maria Muldaur], Emmylou Harris, Billy Bragg, Chloe Sainte-Marie and Anna Sofie Von Otter.
In 1974, they gain their international recognition when Linda Ronstadt recorded Anna's Heart Like A Wheel as the title song of one of her albums. They also signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. and released their self-titled debut album.
In 1981, they left Warner Bros. and signed a recording contract under Hannibal Records. They released albums and most of them were French.
In 1982, they quit the music industry to concentrate raising their own families.
In 1990, they returned into the music scene via their comeback album Hearbeats Accelerating followed by McGarrigle Hour which was released in 1998 and McGarrigle Chiristmas Hour in 2005.
