About

Kate Havnevik originally wanted to be a jazz and classical guitar player but she suddenly changed career paths upon joining an all-female punk band when she was 14. She trained in playing the guitar, piano and melodica, and uses these to write and record her compositions. Her claim to fame was when her demo "Breathe Deeper" reached no. 5 in the charts in KCRW-FM in L.A. She also worked with Guy Sigsworth and Marius De Vries in furthering her skills in music. Havnevik and Sigsworth have collaborated and written songs together, including "Not Fair," "Unlike Me" and "Sleepless," all of which are in Havnevik's full-length debut album, Melankton. The album was released in Norway in April 2006.

Havnevik is also working on two more albums at the moment, the acoustic Embla and another, still untitled one. She worked with harpist Rhodri Davies, vibraphonist Orphy Robinson and Lamb bassist John Thorne. So far, the songs already included in the untitled project are "Show Me Love," "Mouth 2 Mouth," and "Disobey," another song co-written by Sigsworth. All her releases are under her own label, Continentica Records. The US release of Melankton, however, is under Universal Republic Records.

Havnevik also co-wrote and did vocals for "Only This Moment" and "Circuit Breaker," 2 songs by Röyksopp. Other collaborations were with Carmen Rizzo, Moby, Tom Middleton, and former Cranberries guitarist Noel Hogan, with whom she co-wrote and provided vocals for the song "Crazy" on Mono Band's self-titled LP.
