About
Kaki King (Katherine Elizabeth King) was born on August 24, 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia. She learned how to play the guitar and drums and loved the music of the Beatles, Michael Hedges and Preston Reed. King moved to New York to attend college. She had her first solo performance at an open-mic night and on her graduation in 2001. King then decided to take her passion for music to the next level. She began playing at subways and other venues that showed off her percussive technique. Passers-by would ask her if she had a cd, that’s when she realized that she could make serious bucks doing what she loved. In 2002, King performed at Tap Bar where Jeff Krasno of Velour Records signed her in. In 2003, she released her debut album, Everybody Loves You. Moving to Epic Records, King issued Legs to Make Us Longer, in 2004. Two years later, she moved back to her old label, realizing her third attempt, Until We Felt Red. In 2008, Dreaming of Revenge featured King vocal skills.
