[edit] About

Joyful was recorded in New York City within five days. The album is a tribute for her parents who stood as her reference and muse whilst mentor Donny Hathaway and Jimmy Cliff were the inspirations. The album is a collection of bittersweet songs based on Ayo's personal experiences as well as those by people she had encountered along the way. All songs from the album were composed and recorded by Ayo herself except for And It's Supposed To Be Love which is from Abbey Lincoln.

Joyful granted a Double-Platinum in France, Platinum in Germany and Poland and Gold in Switzerland and Italy after its European release in June 2006.

The album was produced by Jay Newland and released by Polydor Records.
