Joss Stone is an English soul and R&B singer and songwriter. At some point she sang as a backup singer of Britney Spears. Joss Stone grew up listening music performed by Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin and as a result, she developed a soulful style of singing. Which later would be one of the music industries sought after vocals.
Joss Stone was born on April 11, 1987 in Dover, Kent, England, and spent her teenage years in Ashill, Devon. At a young age, she spent her time listening to soul music. Her break came when she was asked to appear on Star for a Night show on BBC Television singing "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" of Aretha Franklin.
To back her performance on the show, she immediately decided to fly out from England to audition in New York with S-Curve. After being signed by S-Curve Records, Joss Stone flew to Miami to record and work on with debut album The Soul Sessions which was released later on September 16, 2003. The album reached top 5 in the UK Top 75 albums and also made it to top 40 in the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart.
