Johnta Austin has begun his career at a very young age. Hosting a TV show at CNN called Kid's Beat at the tender age of 8 and eventually became the Atlanta Bureau Chief for the same network. It caught the attention of Arsenio Hall and called him up to guest for his late night show. At the age of 13, he was offered a contract deal with RCA but was short-lived. The label executives line-up were changed and the people who signed him for the deal were no longer there. He was dropped even before releasing his debut album to make way for the new artist the new executives wants to bring -- Tyrese. Despite of what had taken place, he focused on becoming professional in songwriting and was noticed by the staff who produced for Tyrese. He was asked to write the lyrics for the tracks in Tyrese's album and one of which was Sweet Lady which became a top ten hit.
Following the success of his songwriting skills, he also wrote songs for other notable artists like Ciara, Faith Evans, Aaliyah, and Toni Braxton. He became a name when he co-wrote Mariah Carey's hit singles from her The Emancipation of Mimi album, particularly We Belong Together which spent 14 weeks at the top spot. Aside from the 2005 chart-topping, award-winning hit singles, he also co-wrote another award-winning song this time for Mary J. Blige entitled Be Without You.
In 2005, Johnta Austin landed a deal with So So Def/Virgin Records. This time, he takes the spot in the limelight with his debut album, Ocean Drive where he collaborated with Jermaine Dupri.
