About
Born John Stephens on December 28, 1978, Legend was a child prodigy who grew up in Springfield, Ohio. He began singing gospel and playing piano at the tender age of five. He attended Springfield North High School, graduating as Salutatorian at 16. He was also prom king and president of the student council.
John Legend went to the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in English with an emphasis on African American literature and culture. After completing college, Legend moved to New York and started playing at local nightclubs and selling his CD's at his shows. He began to have a loyal following in New York.
With a twist of fate, Legend's former roommate, Devon Harris introduced him to then up and coming rapper Kanye West. Since then, West and Legend constantly worked together, even lending his vocal talents to West's Grammy-winning album, The College Dropout as well as Common's Be. West even signed Legend under his label, G.O.O.D. Music. At this point, John Legend was already an in-demand musician, playing and ocassionally writing for artists like Alicia Keys, Twista and Janet Jackson.
John Legend released his debut album, Get Lifted in December 28, 2004. The album received high praises from music critics and even other musicians. His first single, Used To Love U was such a big hit, cementing him as one of the biggest finds in music.
Currently, Legend will be releasing his second album entitled, Once Again to be released in October 24, 2006 and the first single is Save Room.
The album also boasts production from Kanye West, Raphael Saadiq, and will.i.am. There are no upcoming tour dates as of the moment but Legend is in the works to promote his latest album.
