About

Joan Jett (Joan Marie Larkin) was born on September 22, 1960. At the age of 12 years old, Jett flew to LA. When Jett was 15 years old, was recruited by The Runaways. Jett was given the position as lead vocal and rhythm guitarist. She also co-wrote and wrote some of the songs. The band toured around the globe. The Runaways gained popularity in Australia, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. Unfortunately, they didn't have much success in the U.S. The media didn't take a teenage female lead singer seriously. In 1979, The Runaways disbanded.

When the band move on, Jett started moving behind the scenes. She started producing for the debut album of the band, The Germs'. In 1979, Jett moved to England to start her solo career. She co-wrote three songs for the Paul Cook and Steve Jones. Jett moved back to Los Angeles to be in a film titled We're All Crazee Now!. In 1984, the shooting of the film was stopped due to Jetts instant stardom. The uncompleted film was re-titled DuBeat-Eo and was uncommercially-released.

Producer, Kenny Laguna and Jett started working together. The self-titled debut album was released in Europe but was rejected by 23 record labels in the U.S. They decided to release it independently under Blackheart Records. The duo formed the Blackhearts. They used their own savings to start a system of independent distribution. Every after concert, they would sell albums at the trunk of their car. Laguna was having trouble keeping up with some finances and decided to work with Neil Bogart (owner of Casablanca Records). Laguna and Bogart made a new label called Boardwalk Records. The Blackhearts recorded a new version of the single "I Love Rock N' Roll". The single topped the Billboard Charts. Jett was the first english-speaking performers to play in Dominican Republic and Panama. During the 90's, Jett issued Flashback. A collection of her careers. It was followed by Notorious. Jett also continued producing for other bands. In 1994, the Blackhearts released, Pure and Simple. The album had tracks written by Kat Bjelland and Kathleen Hanna.

Reviews

Joan Jett's songs are female empowering. She has survived the tough world of the music industry and she converted it as her weapon. With her sassy and raspy sexy voice nothing can go wrong. Jett is a strong woman who can rock better than a man. --Mimi 08:00, 28 March 2007 (PST)
