About
The Scottish pop singer and actor Jimmy Somerville, was born on 22nd of June 1961, and raised in Glasgow. He co-founded the British synth-pop trio, Bronski Beat in 1983 releasing their single Smalltown Boy which dealt with his own homosexuality. The single was surprisingly accepted by the listening public that it even ranked number 3 in the UK singles chart. Following its success is their single, Why? (with anti-gay lyrics) which also entered the UK charts, ranking number 6.
In 1985, Sommerville left the group to form The Communards. Teaming up with Richard Coles, a classically-trained pianist, the duo became famous most notably for their rendition of Thelma Houston's Don't Leave Me This Way
The duo split-up after only two albums in 1988 before Sommerville embarked on his solo career. His first album as a solo artist, Read My Lips, released in 1991. Included in this album is his hit rendition of Sylvester's You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), catapulted in the top 5 and the album entered the top 40 as well. After the release of the the single Run from Love, Somerville went in hiatus for several years.
Returning in 1995 with Dare to Love, his single Heartbeat topped the US Dance Hit Chart. After five years he released another album entitled Manage the Damage , followed by a remix album Root Beer later that year. In 2004 Jimmy Somerville released his fourth dance album Home Again.
