About

Born in Novermber 17, 1966 to cult songwriter Tim Buckley and Mary Guilbert in Anaheim, California. Jeff faced more expectations and pre-conceived notions than most singer-songwriters. Although only relating to his father's music by the thinnest of margins, Jeff's vocal talent is extraordinary and his music resembles of a Van Morrison meets Led Zeppelin.

He began playing while in highschool. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he graduated from the Musician's Institute's two-year course. There, he performed in several jazz and funk bands. He also played for Shinehead, a leader in the dancehall reggae movement. He moved to New York a few years later, forming Gods & Monters with experimantal guitarist, Gary Lucas. The band was quite successful, yet it did not last long even for a hip name. Buckley began playing solo in local clubs and coffeehouses, building up a considerable fan base.

He then signed on with a record deal with Columbia Records, releasing Live At Sin-e EP in November 1993. By 1994, he released his first and only full-length album, Grace. The single, Last Goodbye taken off the album, made Buckley a household name. The song was a smash hit in the alternative charts.

After completing an extensive tour in 1996, Buckley went back to the studio to write and record songs for his new album, My Sweetheart The Drunk. By 1997, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee. There, he rented a shotgun house of which he was so fond of he contacted the owner for the possibility of buying it. [1]

On May 29, 1997, he and friend Keith Foti traveled to the local Mud Island Harbor, where Buckley spontaneously decided to go night swimming fully clothed. Foti remained ashore and, minutes later, Buckley disappeared under the waves. Authorities quickly responded, but to no avail. A week later on June 4th, his body was found by a tourist floating near the city's famed Beale Street area. Jeff Buckley was 30 years old. It was specualted that Buckley could have been suffering from Bipolar Disorder after telling loved ones about it. There are no inication as well in police and autopsy reports that he took any kind of mdeication and/or was under the influence of alcohol.

After Buckley's death, a collection of unreleased recordings, Sketches appeared in 1998. Plus two live albums arrived during 2000-2001. Mystery White Boy and Live At L'Olympia were released. Director Brian Jun has announced plans to make a film biography of Jeff Buckley, with the permission of Buckley's mother. There are no latest news as to the development of the project.
