[edit] About
Jane's_Addiction was a brainchild of Perry Farrell. It was during a summer in 1985 that Farrell would look for a bassist for his previous band, but as time came, he met Eric Avery. Both created a perfect tandem and began practicing and recording pieces together. Again, both met on to meet Dave Navarro through a common friend suggesting that he might be suitable for the guitarist position. Farrell was having doubts at first because Navarro was into metal. But during a session it proved to be an even more powerful partnership. Now the trio came to be Jane's_Addiction. It was so to honor a friend, Jane Bainter who was addicted into illegal drugs.
Soon they are playing in the Los Angeles club scene and gained a lot of interest from major record labels. Warner Bros. wanted them but decided to pursue independent release on their first live album.
When they recorded their first debut studio album there was a riff among members about the royalties. Farrell wanted 50% leaving the group with only a few shares. They almost broke up but music proved to be stronger and soon they saw themselves releasing Nothing's Shocking on 1988, their debut album. They toured extensively and soon they were headlining all clubs and theaters across the country.
A year after, they went back to the record room and began recording for their second album. The second album was entitled Ritual de lo Habitual. Due to the existing tensions, the band decided to go to the studio at separate times. And the result was prevalent, only one song of the album was recorded all together. Again, they went on to tour extensively in North America with slots from Pixies, Primus and Smashing Pumpkins.
As the tensions continue to arose, it was time to bid farewell for Jane's Addiction during the Lollapalooza festival created by Perry Farrell and Marc Geiger. They bid farewell as on the show, Navarro and Farrell are engaged on a fight on stage. It resulted Navarroo on throwing his guitar to the crowd and walk out the stage together. But because of contractual obligations they continued to stay put for a couple months more playing in Australia's club scene and playing their last two shows at Aloha Tower in Honolulu, Hawaii.
They released their third album on for the last time on 2003 entitled Strays. They split and came to be reunited after five years of breaking up performing at the first-ever NME Awards USA on April 23, 2008, with the proper reunited line-up of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins. This was the first performance with bassist Eric Avery since 1991.
