James Taylor is an american singer, songwriter and a guitarist. He rose to fame when he released his single "You've Got A Friend" which became a big hit worldwide.

About
James Taylor was born on March 12, 1948 in Belmont, Massachusetts to Dr. Isaac and Gertrude Taylor. James has three brothers and one sister. All of them became musicians and have their own records.
In 1951, James father was appointed dean of the medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When James was still a child, he tried to learned the cello and guitar,
In 1963, he studied in Milton Academy, Massachusetts. While studying he met Danny Kortchman, a guitarist. The two formed a band.
At the age of 16 years old, he dropped out of school and formed a band with his brother, Alex. He transferred in New York. While he was there, James suffered from depression and checked himself into McLean Psychiatric Hospital in Massachusetts. While staying there, he was inspired to compose a song. He earned a high school diploma while in the hospital.
After his rehabilitation, he went back to New York and formed a new group, The Flying Machine. In 1968, James transferred in London where he submitted a demo tape to Peter Asher, a former member of Peter & Gordon. He released his self-titled debut album James Taylor. The album did not do well. James addiction worsened. James went back to United States and checked into a hospital to rehabilitate.
In 1969, he performed at the Newport Folk Festival. After the performance, he broke his both hands in a motorcycle accident on Martha's Vineyard, which put him out of commission for several months.
When he was recovered, James left recording company, Apple Records and signed a new recording contract under Warner Bros. He went to California. His second album, Sweet Baby James was a big success.
James has many followed up albums, singles and compilations. In 2000, one of his compilation album Greatest Hits had sold over 10 million copies which earned him the RIAA's Diamond Award. James was also inducted into both the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
In 2004, James appeared on the television series The West Wing. He also sang the national anthem before game two of the World Series.
In 2006, James contributed the song "Our Town" to the soundtrack of the animated film, Cars.
