About

J. Holiday was born Nahum Grymes on November 22, 1984 in Washington, DC. His name was derived from a biblical figure due to his father was a preacher while his mother was an ordained minister. He began singing at the age of nine, while when he was eleven, his father passed away. His mother all alone together with his six female siblings raised him after his father died.

His mother, Frances, lives in a conventional rule of completing education and attending church. Once he attempted to pursue a deep career in music, he was sent by his mother back to school to complete his education first.

After graduating from high school, he skipped college to fulfill his dream of becoming a true blue musician.

In early 2000, he met Corey Green and together they formed a group called 295, which eventually broke-up in 2003 due to a fruitless career.

It was A&R former executive who goes by the name of Anthony "TA" Tate who at that time represented Music Line Group saw J. Holiday's potential as a solo artist. Right there and then, Tate sent him to Atlanta and convinced Capitol to take him as their talent, which promptly agreed by the latter.

A contract was signed afterwards and he began recording in 2006.

His debut single under the label entitled Be With Me (produced by The Underdogs and Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins) was released in October 2006 but received a moderate success. Until came his second single Bed that quickly put him to spotlight and engaged him to several gigs and be privileged to tour with Keyshia Cole during summer 2007.

Same year of October 2 surfaced his full-length debut Back of my Lac' followed by an album release party held at Lotus Lounge in Washington DC on the same day.
