J-Kwon is a rapper from St. Louis who works under So So Def Recordings. He had his debut album Hood Hop released on 2004.

About
Early Life
J-Kwon was born Jarell Jones in real life on March 28, 1986in St. Louis. At a young age he has a broken family where his mother kicked him out of the house after observing hip-hop music videos. His mother did not want him to become a rapper. He then turned a life of violence living in his car and only have writing as his weapon to get out of poverty.
Turning His Life to Music
He then turn his life into music after he continually mock Jermain Dupri, who produced majority of his albums, to hip hop. Regardless of his mock Dupri added, "it was because of his skills that he was signed" a record contract.
On 2004, he released his debut single "Tipsy" and his debut album Hood Hop. The album peaked at #7 in the Billboard 200 albums chart and reached gold status in the United States. It has sold 650,000 copies to date. While the single "Tipsy" peaked at #2 in the Hot 100 charts in the U.S.
Popularity
What brought him to popularity was the 2005 opportunity to sing the "Get XXX'D" song for the movie XXX: State of the Union soundtrack. In that song it featured Petey Pablo and Ebony Eyez. This gave him more fans base. Currently, J-Kwon is finalizing his second album to be released this year (2007).
