About

The Queen of Reggaeton, Ivy Queen (Martha Ivelisse Pesante) was born on March 4, 1972. Ivy Queen, the undisputed "Queen of Reggaeton," was born Martha Ivelisse Pesante on March 4, 1972 in Afiasco, Puerto Rico. When she was just a child, Queen moved to New York City. During her teen years, her family moved back to Puerto Rico. She became more involved with the underground Latin hip-hop scene. At 18 years old, she left for San Juan and met producer DJ Negro.

He helped Ivy perform a reggae club called The Noise. DJ Negro produced Ivy Queen’s debut single “Somos Raperos Pero no Delincuentes”. She became tired of the violent and sexual lyrics and left. In 1996, Queen released her debut album, En Mi Imperio under Sony Records. The follow up album, The Original Rude Girl, was issued in 1998. In 2003, Diva was released.

Reviews

Ivy Queen’s singles are smooth and are great to dance with. She is bold. Its great to see a woman dominating the scene but her music is not different compared to other Latin artists. -Mimi 08:00, 30 May 2007 (PST)
