About
Released in May 29, 2001 under Columbia Records, the album was not as warmly welcomed as her first album Sweet Kisses. Though the album, Irresistible, finds Jessica Simpson wrapping her impressive chops around a batch of catchy pop, R&B, and gospel-lite songs. Lyrically, Jessica Simpson expresses much on how she feels to then ex-husband Nick Lachey where she sang:
"I know that I'm supposed to make him wait"
"Let him think I like the chase"
"But I can't stop fanning the fire"
In this album, Jessica Simpson shines the brightest on inspirational numbers such as "Forever in Your Eyes," a duet with Marc Anthony, and her stirring, choir-backed rendering of the classic hymn "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."
The album did not do well in the United States. It debuted with 127,000 copies its first week, while it spent only seven weeks in the Top 50. After seven weeks, it had sold 420,000 copies. To date, it has only sold about 700,000 copies.
