Human Clay is hard rock rooted firmly in the Seattle vein, complete with really big riffs and intensely introspective lyrics. It's not all mid-tempo sludge, for there are also ballads and some high-octaine, up-tempo rock.

Human Clay does make it clear that there is an audience for post-grunge hard rock, as long as it's delivered without pretension and as long as it meets the audience's desire for straight-ahead, hard-hitting music.

Trivia
Creed released Human Clay and the LP spent 2 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Stapp said of the LP: "We're the type of band that functions really well under pressure, and there was definitely a pressure to try to top ourselves this time. Not so much what we sell, because we don't really care about that. We wanted to make a really great record. The band’s goal has always been to make records that are solid from start to finish; records that take you through an entire range of emotions.
