Heather Headley is an award singer and songwriter. She has appeared in several movies The Break Up Handbook and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Her debut album, This Is Who I Am won a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Vocal performance.

About

Heather Headley was born on October 5,1974 in Barataria, Trinidad. Her parents were very supportive of what Heather. At a young age she already knew that she wanted to be a singer. At the age of 2 years old, Heather began competing in a performing arts competition. She began playing the piano at 4. In 1990, the Headley family moved to Fort Wayne. Young Heather had a hard time adjusting to the new environment. She also had a hard time in school making her play hookey all the time. Heather only had a few friends. She even thought of taking law but music was always in her heart.

Headley fell in love with news casting when she enrolled in Communications and Musical Theather in Northwestern University. Her passion for music never left her heart but she was not ready to face the challenges on the industry has to offer. While studying, she was working part time on Dreamgirls, Do Re Mi and The World Goes Round. Her studies were going down but this oppurtinity gained her an agent. In 1996, Heather got a call back on the musical Ragtime. The producers loved Heather and was offered a job. In 1997, she grabbed the oppurtunity to portray Nala in Disney's Lion King. She also auditioned fo Elaborate Lives: The Legend of Aida, written by Elton John and Tim Rice and got the part. Heather won the hearts of everyone except the critics.

In 2002, Heather signed in with RCA Record releasing her debut album This Is Who I am. It sold over 500,000 copies and went gold. In 2003, she was awarded as the Lady of Soul R&B Soul Album of the year and Best New Artist. Later that year, Heather gor married wuth Brian Musso from the New York Jets. In 2006, she issued In My Mind, which was included in the soundtrack of Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.
