About

Hanson is a pop group formed in Tulsa, Oklahoma by siblings Clarke Isaac Hanson, Jordan Taylor Hanson and Zachary Walker Hanson. Blessed with good looks, they attained crowd's attention after the release of their record-breaking album Middle of Nowhere that contains the hit single single Mmmbop in 1997. The band's career first started when their father's job in the oil business took them places and reside in Trinidad and Tobago, Ecuador and Venezuela. There, they grew up listening to Time/Life compilation records covering the years 1957-1969 and start influencing by Latin American music as it surrounds them. The band was originally named The Hanson Brothers, a group of 3 boys who sang a capella and recorded songs like Rockin' Robin, Splish Splash and Johnny B. Goode as well as singing their own piece. Their first performance as a professional group happened in 1992 at the Mayfest Arts Festival in Tulsa. Hanson also appeared on Carman's 'Yo Kidz: The Vidz in which Taylor portrayed the young biblical David facing Goliath, Isaac as the event announcer and Zac seen on the stand cheering on the event together with some family members. Later on, the boys formed a garage band. Isaac picked-up a second hand guitar, Zac borrowed an old set of drums and Taylor as the keyboardist and the lead vocal of the group. In between 1992-1995, while waiting for a record deal, Hanson recorded and released a pair of Indie albums in their hometown of Tulsa titled Boomerang (in 1995) and Mmmbop (in 1996). The latter album featured the original version of Mmmbop that soon became the runaway single on their debut commercial album Middle of Nowhere. Then the boys found themselves at the South By Southwest musical festival for unsigned bands in Austin, Texas, happened to be spotted by Christopher Sabec, became their manager and soon to shop them at major record labels, but most of these labels turned them down. But things suddenly changed when the A&R representative of Mercury Records, Steve Greenberg heard them play a set at Kansas State Fair which promptly signed them at Mercury Records and became a worldwide sensation after the release of their major label album Middle of Nowhere. The release of the said album brought them commercial success in 1997. Their first single Mmmbop debuted at #16 in the U.S. Reaching the chart at #1 spot for both U.S. and U.K., #2 in Canada and stayed at the top spot for 2 months in Australia. Their second single Where's The Love also topping the chart. The group got also featured in major teen magazines and start to gather a wide range of teen and pre-teen girl followers all accross the globe and became major teen idols. Follow-up albums couldn't match the success of their Middle of Nowhere. As the holidays approached, they released a Christmas album called Snowed In in 1998, re-released their previous independent album Three Car Garage followed by a concert album Live From Albertane the following fall. In the spring of 2000, Hanson came up with a new album called This Time Around but the album didn't made it big on the chart and on sales as well resulted Hanson to depart their recent record label Island Def Jam and produced their own record label 3CG Records. The band toured the summer and fall of 2003 promoting their Underneath Acoustic CD comprising of some acoustic versions of songs from their fourthcoming album Underneath.

Underneath was released on April of 2004. Upon release, it entered the Billboard Independent Chart peaking at #1 and was soon picked-up by Cooking Vinyl (UK), JVC (Japan), Univision (Mexico) and Sony (SE Asia). The album's success put the group to tour 25 cities accross 13 countries in a span of four weeks including a sold-out show at London's famed Shepherd's Bush Empire. It's carrier single Penny & Me reached #2 on Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. While the band was busy travelling the globe, their Underneath Acoustic Live DVD was released featuring a Chicago show from their 2003 acoustic tour. In fall of 2005, Hanson toured US and Canada to support their recently released live album, The Best of Hanson: Live & Electric. They also visited different colleges for the promotion of their documentary Strong Enough To Break chronicling the struggles they have encountered while on Island Def Jam label and the success of their own label 3CG Records. They also held a question and answer portion tackling about problems of Indie artists faces today.

In November 2005, Hanson's old record label released Mmmbop: The Collection, a compilation of previous tracks extracted from their first two albums but due to poor distribution, the album didn't placed well on the chart and received negative criticism from Hanson's loyal fanbase due to what the documentary had revealed regarding the label.

In July 2006, the band recorded Great Divide and released exclusively on iTunes on December 2006 for the benefit of AIDS prevention in Africa.

In early 2007, Hanson released their documentary Strong Enough To Break and their docu-series Taking the Walk on iTunes. Both documentaries are made available to iTunes users for free.

In 2007, their second album off 3CG Records, The Walk hit the US, Mexico and Canada come May 22, Japan on February 21 and UK on April 30 and is available on various CD stores and websites for grabs.
