About

Gretchen Wilson was born on June 26, 1973 at Pocahontas, Illinois. Her mother was only 16 years old when she was born. Unfortunately, her father left them when she was only two years old. Gretchen grew up in poverty, whenever they couldn't make a rent, they packed up their little belongings they owned and moved down the road to find another trailer.

Gretchen has dropped out from school when she was in eight grader to look for a job. At an early age, she works as a cook and a bartender at Big O's. In her teenage years, she began performing in the parking lot of Kmart. When she turns 16 years old, she started to be independent.

In 1996, she moved to Nashville to pursue her ambition to be a singer. In 2000, she joined an informal group of aspiring country songwriters called Muzik Mafia. She also started to submit demo tapes in some Recording companies.

In 2003, Gretchen signed a recording contract under Epic Records. In 2004, she released her first single, Redneck Woman and reached number 22 on the Billboard charts. Her single also reached number one on the World Composite Chart. In that same year, she released her debut album, Here For The Party and debuted at number one on the Country Billboard charts. The album also reached number 2 on the American Country charts. The album has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide. It went into a certified four times platinum.
