Gorillaz is a virtual band created by Damon Albarn from the band Blur and Jamie Hewlett, creator of the comic book Tank Girl.

Formation

Gorillaz is a virtual band created through the brainchild of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. They were conceived as the first virtual hip-hop group after releasing their first song "Ghost Train" which was included in their single "Rock the House". On 2000, they released their first EP "Tomorrow Comes Today" which was warmly received by music lovers around the world where, Gorillaz was born.


Debut Single & Album

Officially on March 5, 2001, the group released their debut single entitled "Clint Eastwood" where it became a smash hit putting Gorillaz in the worldwide limelight. Their email accounts where hacked and abandoned, inboxes were no longer updated. However, later that month, they released their full length self-titled debut album Gorillaz that produced four singles: "Clint Eastwood", "19-2000", "Tomorrow Comes Today", and "Rock the House". Both "Clint Eastwood" and "19-2000" were the only band to break in the U.S. scene.


Second Studio Album

The band released Demon Days on May 23, 2005 as their second studio album producing four singles: "Feel Good Inc.", "DARE", "Dirty Harry", and "Kids with Guns"/"El Mañana".

The album received numerous awards including a Grammy for best pop collaborations with vocals for "Feel Good Inc." And was certified double platinum in US and 5 times platinum in the UK.
