[edit] About
Alternative band Gin Blossoms began in 1987 at Tempe Arizona. Bill Leen (bass), Doug Hopkins (guitar) Jesse Valenzuela (vocalist), Richard Taylor (guitarist) and Chris McCann (drummer) was the original line-up of the band. There were a lot of adjustments in the line-up. McCann was being replaced by Dan Henzerling soon followed by Philip Rhodes. Taylor was then replaced by Robin Wilson. In 1990, Gin Blossoms released their first album, Dusted, under A&M records.
It was in 1991, when Gin Blossoms released their official debut album, Up & Crumbling. In 1993, the single, “Hey Jealousy”, became a hit single which climbed up the pop charts. The full-length album, New Miserable Experience, was released the following year selling over on million copies.
Hopkins battled depression and alcoholism, he was later replaced by Scott Johnson. The band was not the same without Hopkins’s melancholic voice. On December 5, 1993, the guitarist committed suicide. In 1995, Gin Blossoms came back with the hit single “Till I Hear It from You”. A single co-written by Marshall Crenshaw. In 1996, the band released their third album, Congratulations… I’m Sorry”. It entered the charts but disappeared six months after. In 1997, Gin Blossoms disbanded.
