About
George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 in Bushey, Hertfordshire. He began his career by forming a band called "The Executive" with his bestfriends Andrew Ridgeley and Costas Michael who happens to be a fellow pupil at the same school.
"The Executive" was short-lived and it prompted him again to form a duo with Ridgeley named "Wham!". They released two albums "Fantastic!" and "Make It Big" where these albums became instant success. They toured around China in 1985 where it generated enormous media coverage as the first Western pop act to do so. The duo split in the summer of 1986 making George Michael wanting to go solo. He did, and soon released his first solo album "Faith" which resulted in four number one singles in the United States. With the successes on his debut solo album, he was then also voted Best Male Singer of the year.
Some of his other hits include "Kissing a Fool", "Father Figure", "One More Try", "Freedom 90", "Fastlove", "Jesus to a Child", "Freeek!", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" (a duet with Elton John), and the controversial song and video "Shoot the Dog" which is a commentary on the Tony Blair and George Bush war on terror.
