About

Friends and Family is a 2006 album by Ayhan Sicimoglu which was released by Doublemoon Records. The album sums up the nature of the project. Friends and Family is an album characterized by the collective efforts of guest performers featured on the album’s 11 tracks. Colorful and authentic compositions as well as some old favorites such as “Istanbul Pas Constantinople”, “Historia de Un Amor”, and “Esperare” come to life and reveal new layers and textures when played by 25 talented guest musicians.

Jazz musician Fahir Atakoglu’s incredible arrangements and world-class jazz pianist Aydin Esen’s interesting harmonies and techniques infuse the album with warm sounds. While popular Turkish artist Özkan Uğur Ahi Nama Kaynana sings in Spanish, gypsy percussionist Balık Ayhan and Ayhan Siciomoğlu perform a duello. Spanish composer Rodrigo Rodriguez raps over Amik Guerra’s breathtaking arrangements, Balık Ayhan and crew’s paths cross with Turkish Folk Music artist Nurcan on “Samba Batuca.”. The album also features Cuban trumpet player Amik Abdel Guerra Ling Long, Peruvian Cesar Correa and even one genuine family-member, Ayhan Sicimoglu’s own soprano daughter Ayse Sicimoglu.
