About

French Kicks was formed in 1998 at New York City, USA. The group were comprised of "Matt Stinchcomb" and "Josh Wise" on guitar and vocals, "Jamie Krents" on bass and "Nick Stumpf" on drums and vocals. Jamie, Nick and Matthew started performing together since their early teens. They also studied in Oberlin College in Ohio. After college, the trio move in Brooklyn, New York and met Josh. The group formed now their band called, French Kicks.

The band released their self-titled EP in 1999 under My Pal. In that same year they signed their recording contract under Startime International. In 2001, they issued another EP, The Young Lawyer. They released their first full lenth studio album, One Time Bells in May 7, 2002. After released, Jamie left the band and was replaced by, "Lawrence Stumpf", Nick's younger brother. Their next album, The Trial of Century was released in 2004. In 2006, Matt left the band. It was also in that year they released their next album, Two Thousand and feature the single, "So Far We Are" Their latest album, Swimming was released last March 2008.

A blend of post-punk aggression and mod melodies and harmonies, the French Kicks originally featured guitarists/vocalists Matt Stinchcomb and Josh Wise, bassist Jamie Krents, and drummer/vocalist Nick Stumpf. Washington, D.C., natives Krents, Stumpf, and Stinchcomb began playing together in their early teens, inspired by their hometown's renowned hardcore scene; upon moving to Brooklyn after college, the trio met Wise and became a quartet. Officially christened the French Kicks in 1998, the group released their self-titled debut EP on My Pal God the following year. After more touring and recording, the French Kicks signed to Star Time in the U.S. and Creation impresario Alan McGee's label Poptones in the U.K. The Young Lawyer EP arrived in early 2001, and a year later the group toured with the Vue and labelmates the Walkmen before releasing their full-length debut, One Time Bells

In 1999 they released a self titled EP The French Kicks under the label My Pal God. Soon, after a lot of touring, the band signed to Startime International. They soon released the Young Lawyer EP in 2001. The group then embarked on a tour with fellow garage rockers The Vue and The Walkmen. In 2002 they released their first full length album, One Time Bells. Jamie Krents departed the band the next year, and was replaced on bass by Lawrence Stumpf, Nick's younger brother. In 2004, their next album, The Trial of the Century was released. Another personnel change occurred when Nick stopped playing drums at live shows to concentrate on his lead singing. A series of temporary drummers filled his spot until the band settled on Aaron Thurston, a Massachusetts native. In late 2005, Stinchcomb announced that he was leaving the band. A new album was released on July 18, 2006 titled Two Thousand. Their video for their single "So Far We Are" also features actress Olivia Wilde.
