[edit] About

Born Francisco Javier Bautista in Tijuana on December 7, 1978. He and his family moved to San Diego when he was 2. His father and grandfather were musically inclined and Frankie grew up listening to traditional Latin music as well as R&B. His father, a lead singer for a traditional band influenced him. Soonafter, Frankie was performing to entertain his family. He attended Southwest High School (San Diego, CA) for his high school years.

Spanish was Frankie J's first language and first music that he was exposed to. The rhythmic sounds of Tijuana reflected in bands such as Cumbias Rancheras and Bandas. But he did not limit himself to only Latin music, he also loved listening to the music of big name artists like Michael Jackson, Run DMC, Curtis Blow, and The Fat Boys. When he got older, he listened more to R&B with musicians such as Brian McKnight. Stevie Wonder, and K-Ci and Jojo.

Frankie J began to develop more of a interest in singing with the encouragement of his family. He began participating in talent shows when he was in high school and performing at school functions. The experience motivated him to do better and take music seriously. He was then signed as a Latin Freestyle by a small music label in Canada when he was only 15. The oppurtunity gave him more exposure and followed bigger labels knocking at his doorstep.

in 1997, Frankie J signed with the now defunct Hola Recordings, the brainchild of dance music legend and producer Jellybean Benitez. Unfortunately, Frankie's debut album in never made it to record stores so in 1999, he left Hola to join an already established Latin pop group, Los Kumbia Kings. He shared his vocal talents with another singer, he would perform the group's English songs and wrote most of their R&B influenced hits. The band toured and performed within three and a half years. They also appeared on television, Frankie sang at the Billboard Latin Music Awards and traveled the world. But this did not satisfy his craving of making it on his own with his own musical taste and direction.

Frankie J recorded his solo debut album, What's A Man To Do? in 2003. His debut single, Don't Wanna Try began to create a buzz around the music industry, which was a dream come true. The single peaked at the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while Ya No Es Igual was top 10 on the World Latin charts.

He collaborated with his relative Baby Bash in creating, Suga, Suga which ranked #1 in New Zealand and was at the top 10 hits in the US and Australia in 2003. Frankie worked with well-know producers for his sophomore album The One, including Irv Gotti of Murder Inc, and Mario Winans. The One was released in April 2005 and debuted in #3 as the Billboard 200 chart. The follow-up singles, How To Deal, and More Than Words helped the album reached Platinum status.

Frankie J released his second Spanish language album entitled. Un Nuevo Dia in June 13, 2006. The album produced a minor hit entitled, Pensado En Ti.

Priceless was released in October 17, 2006 and was produced by Bryan Michael Cox, DJ Clue, Soulshock, Play-N-Skillz, Mannie Fresh, and Frankie himself. The first single, That Girl made its video premiere in MTV's Total Request Live on August 16, 2006 with Frankie the one who introduced the video. The album did less than his previous effort, garnering only minor hits and dropped out of the Billboard 200 Albums after only 3 weeks. But Frankie looks hopeful, a strong belief that will keep his music alive for years to come.
