About

Released on April 26, 2005 under Rough Trade, Fisherman's Woman is another successful album from Emiliana Torrini, following the critically acclaimed Love In The Time of Science. Fisherman's Woman is a more intimate album, utilizing mainly guitars, and piano in a few tracks.

In the beautiful acoustic "Sunny Road," she sings about the decisions she made , and about reuniting. There's a certain optimism in the song. On the other hand, "Todas Has Been OK" drips with sadness. In this track, she sings "without you here the seasons pass me by." "Lifesaver" is particularly interesting and unique as it is accompanied by boats creaking on water. Emiliana Torrini's breathy voice never fails to express the right emotions. This is very much evident in the last track off the album, "Serenade." This album may be a sophomore effort, but it definitely does not sound like it.

Reviews

  • This album is generally themed around loss, and the mourning that follows it. Nobody can better sing these songs than Emiliana Torrini, with such enchantingly beautiful voice. - 1630cafe 04/20/07
