Fiona Apple is an American pop songwriter, pianist and at the same time a singer. Her debut album is Tidal which sold about 3 million copies.

Fiona Apple Maggart was born September 13, 1977 in Manhattan, New York. Her mother was a singer, Diana McAfee and his father was an actor Brandon Maggart. At the age of eight years old she began to play the piano. Her parents divorced and she had an experience of being raped. At the age of twelve years old she started writing her own songs. At the age of sixteen, she left school to live with her father. Fiona moved to Los Angeles and started giving her demo tapes to several record companies. In 1995, she signed with Sony Music.
In 1996, she released her debut album, Tidal and began touring. The singles, "Criminal" and "Shadowboxer" were a hit. The album went Platinum. In 1999, her second album, When The Pawn Hits The Conflicts He Thinks Like A King... What He Knows Throws The Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is The Greatest Of Heights and if You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and if You Fall It Won't Matter, 'Cuz You'll Know That You're Right (the album's full title) was released. The single "Fast As You Can" reached the Modern Rock Track Charts. The album went Platinum and peaked at #13 on the Billboard charts. In 2002, there was rumor that Sony disliked her new songs. Some of her tracks leaked. In 2005, she released her third album, Extraordinary Machine.
