[edit] About
Rapper Fat Joe was born on August 19, 1970 in Bronx, New York. His given name is Joseph Cartagena. He was also known as Fat Joe da Gangst and Joey Crack. With the help of his brother, Fat Joe learned how to survive in the streets and introduced him to rap music. He grew up with the sounds of Theodore, Funky 4 + 1, and the Furious Five. In the early 1990's, he signed with Relativity Records who later on released his debut album, Represent, in 1993. The album's single "Flow Joe" conquered the Billboard Hot Rap.
In 1995, he released his second album, Jealous One's Envy. Fat Joe worked with KRS-One and producers DJ Premier, LES, and Domingo in this album. Later that year, he worked with LL Cool J, Foxy Brown and Keith Murray on the smash hit "I Shot Ya" and Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon "Firewater".
Fat Joe decided to switch labels which resulted to signing with Atlantic Records. In 1998, his third album, Don Cartagena, hit record stands. Artists with big names such as P. Daddy, Nas, Raekwon, Big Pun and Jadakiss made an appearance on the album. In 2001, Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.) was released. He worked with Ludacris, Petey Pablo, M.O.P., R.
