[edit] About

The band took their name while performing in college and asked what their band name should be, and an audience yelled "Fall out Boy", the name of superhero Radioactive Man's sidekick on the animated series The Simpsons. But the band claims there is no reference of their name from the cartoon character.

One of the best ways to understand what Fall Out Boy are is to realize what they are not. Their music contains elements of punk and pop, but they aren’t pop-punk. Likewise, their songs are emotional and their lyrics can be poignant, but they’re certainly not emo. By tapping into elements of their favorite styles, the bandmembers are able to attain their own sound whilst standing apart from the pack.

Wentz and Trohman grew up with music in the blood. They performed previously in other bands, they then met Stump who originally auditioned as the drummer but then became the frontman for the band. Wentz later recruited Hurley to become their drummer, and Fall Out Boy was formed.

Fall Out Boy performed all around Chicago, and created a fan base who loved punk, hardcore, and emo music. Then the band released their first album Evening Out With Your Girlfriend on Uprising Records in 2003.

After releasing their debut, drummer Andy Hurley joined the band then they released their second full-length album Take This To Your Grave under Fueled by Ramen. The album achieved Gold status then they signed on with Island Records.

In 2005, the band's stability was threatened when Wentz overdosed on the anxiety medication Ativan® in an apparent (but disputed) suicide attempt. The song "7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen)," from their album From Under The Cork Tree, is based upon Wentz's experience. But on May 3 that same year they released their third album From Under the Cork Tree which debuted at the Billboard charts at number 9. Since the release, they had multiple platinum hit singles such as Sugar, We're Going Down and Dance, Dance.

The band has already toured with other famous groups like Taking Back Sunday, Less Than Jake, Blink 182, The Academy Is..., Panic! At the Disco, Midtown, Hawthorne Heights, and The All-American Rejects.

Fall Out Boy released their last album, Infinity on High, on February 6, 2007 . The new record included Ryan Ross (of Panic! At the Disco) and Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory). The next album to appear from Fall Out Boy will be Folie À Duex, which will be in stores December 15 and 16 of 2008.

Not only that, but they have recorded a cover of "What's This?", for the rerelease of Tim Burtons's Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3D.

Fall Out Boy's top three songs from their last album, 'Infinty On High' are: 'This Ain't A Scene It's An Arms Race', 'Thnks Fr Th Mmrs', 'Take Over The Breaks Over',
