About
Everything but the Girl was formed in 1982 by Hull University students, "Tracey Thorn" who was born in September 26, 1962 and "Ben Watt" born on December 6, 1962. The duo took their name from a sign placed in the window of a local furniture shop, which claimed, "For your bedroom needs, we sell everything but the girl." At the time of the formation of the band, the two were signed a recording contract under Cherry Red Records as an individual artist. Tracey was a former member of Sublime Marine Girls. Ben spawned numerous singles. Each has released a solo album.
The duo released their self-titled debut album in 1984 and features the UK hit single, "Each and Every One". Their next album, Love Not Money was released in 1985. It spawned the single, "Sean" and "Ugly Little Dreams". In 1986, their next album, Baby The Stars Shine Bright was released. Idlewild followed in 1988. It features the single, "I Don't Want To Talk About It". Their next album, The Language of Life was released in 1990. It spawned the hit single, "Driving". Their next album, Worldwide was released in 1991.
The singles "Love is Strange", "Tougher Than The Rest" and Cyndi Lauper's and "Time After Time", "Alison" are all included in the Acoustic album of the duo which was released in 1992. Other hit albums were released like, Amplified Heart in 1994, Walking Wounded in 1996, Temperamental in 1999 and Back To Mine in 2001.
