About
Early Years
Everclear was formed by lead singer vocals Art Alexakis. From a troubled youth that began when his father left his family, financial hardships pushed his family to the slums. There he was lured by heavy drug use and suffered a near fatal cocaine overdose. This incident finally made him realize that he has to change. And it was through the power of music that made him be aware that there is a bright future ahead.
In the late 1980s, he started to play with the short lived band Shakin' Brave where he honed his skills in songwriting. Frustrated by the Los Angeles inattention to music, he soon moved to San Francisco to start his own recording company, Shindig Records. He began recording materials of his own and eventually became involved with a band called Colorfinger.
On 1992, the record company failed and Colorfiner broke up. While looking for another location, he decided to move to Portland, Oregon. There he place a wanted ad in a local weekly music publication called The Rocket. He got two responses from the ad: Craig Montoya and Scott Cuthbert. The trio now plays under the name Everclear.
Capitol Years
The group released their first album World of Noise by Tim/Kerr Records in 1993. Frustrated by the record label's lack of resources, they went out and looked for independent promoters. After a modest bidding war, they were signed by Capitol Records by executive Gary Gersh, who was responsible for signing Nirvana, Sonic Youth, and Counting Crows.
Before they released their second album on May 1995, Everclear parted ways with drummer Cuthbert, citing personal conflicts, and brought in former Jollymon drummer Greg Eklund. Eklund together with Montoya, and Alexakis recorded five albums under their belt for Everclear.
The New Everclear
After recording five albums together, Montoya and Eklund decided to leave the band. Montoya formed his own band called the Tri-Polar. And Eklund also formed his own band called the The Oohlas. Alexakis would continue with Everclear organizing a new line-up on 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Bretl Snyder and keyboard player Josh Crawley. Together for the first time they released their latest album Welcome to the Drama Club on September 12, 2006 this time under Seven Eleven Music.
