About
Emiliana Torrini is a half Icelandic, half Italian singer born on May 16, 1977. She joined the choir as a kid then went into opera school at age 15. She had fun listening to classical music and recording songs at home. Part of the recordings was one she made for her father on his 50th birthday composed of jazz and blues songs. It then became an album, selling 15,000 copies in Iceland and topping the charts for months. Another album followed, but this time half of the songs were written by her.
During performances in restaurants and hotels, she was spotted by One Little Indian, which became her first label. She then moved to England and recorded her worldwide debut album, Love In The Time of Science, which was released in 1999. Torrini also sang "Gollum's Song" after Björk refused due to pregnancy.
In 2005, Torrini released Fisherman's Woman but under a new label, Rough Trade. This album includes "Sunny Road" and "Heartstopper." In the 2006 Icelandic Music Awards, she was nominated in four categories and won in three of them.
