About
Elvis Castello was born "Declan Patrick MacManus" on August 25, 1954 in St Mary's Hospital, Paddington in London. When he was 17 years old, he transferred in Liverpool with his mother, he formed his first band Flip City in 1975 but was lasted only for one year.
When Elvis was already living in London with his wife, "Mary Burgoyne" and son, he began to compose songs and found a recording company sending them his demo tapes. He found a recording company where he sent his demo tapes and eventually signed for a recording contract with "Stiff Records". His manager suggested that he use a pseudo name of Elvis and the maiden name of his mother to form Elvis Costello.
In 1977, he released his first album My Aim Is True which was moderately successful. It chartered at #14 in the UK and number 40 in the US chart. The album was ranked number 168 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Its release saw Elvis marketed by Stiff as a "new wave artist" or a "punk rock|punk", despite the fact that the album featured the ballad Alison. He also recruited his own band called The Attractions in that same year.
Elvis released several successful albums like, Mighty Like A Rose and Brutal Youths. The singles "The Other Side" from the album, Mighty Like A Rose was released in 2001. In that same year, Elvis began to be a music teacher in UCLA and produced the first album of the opera singer Anne Sofie. He released his album, When I Was Cruel in 2002. The song, "45" was also released in that year.
Together with his band, The Attractions they were inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame in 2003.
His latest studio album, The Delivery Man with its single, "Button My Lip" was released in 2004. The album was acclaimed by some critics as one of "Elvis" best albums.
