Donna Summer or LaDonna Adrian Gaines in real life was born on December 31, 1948 at Dorchester, Massachusetts. Donna loves singing since she was a child. Donna is a member of their church's gospel choir. She was a fan of gospel legend Mahalia Jackson. When she was a teenager, she became a member of a rock group called The Crow.
After graduating from high school, she decided to move in New York in order to find work in Broadway. At the age of 18, she auditioned for a role in the hippie musical Hair. She was selected to be part of the Broadway musical. The show moved to Germany so she became a German resident. Donna was also part of the casts of Godspell and Show Boat also held in Germany. After the show, she became part of the Hair company in Vienna. She joined the Viennese Folk Opera and went back to Germany.
Donna released her single, Sally Go 'Round the Roses in 1971. It was not successful. Her first album, Lady of The Night was released in 1975. The album reached the album charts. Donna's first international compilation albums, on the Radio: Greatest Hits Volumes 1 & 2 was her third number one album. She was the first singer who has three consecutive number-one double-albums. It features he duet with Barbra Streisand, No More Tears (Enough is Enough.
In the next few years, Donna released a follow up studio and compilation albums including singles. Some were successful and some are not. Donna released her greatest-hits compilation album, The Journey in 2003. Donna was among the first artists inducted into the newly formed Dance Music Hall of Fame in New York City.
