[edit] About
Longtime friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Steve "Fuzz" Kmak (bass), hooked up with singer David Draiman in 1997 to form the band Disturbed. Having been expelled from most the schools he had been in his teens, the rebellious Draiman found a much needed outlet for his anger in the thrashing music of Disturbed. Playing around Chicago built them up a cult following. Two demo tapes, one accused of being a fluke, and the next one made to prove those rumors wrong, led to their signing to Giant Records and subsequently to the release of their debut album, The Sickness, in March of 2000. Around this time, they signed on to record "Glass Shatters," Steve Austin's revamped theme song for then WWF. The song performed so well that it received radio air play in its own right.
After participating in Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest tour in 2001, the band had gained enough fans and exposure to warrant a break away tour billed "Music as a Weapon".
In September 2002, fresh from their tour tracks, Disturbed recorded their second album Believe. It was subsequently released in September 2002, and debuted at #1.
The band once again participated in the Ozzfest tour in 2003. earlier that year, Steve "Fuzz" Kmak had left the band "for personal reasons." He was replaced with John Moyer.
The tour document Music as a Weapon II appeared in 2004, and the ambitious studio full-length Ten Thousand Fists in September 2005. Later that year Draiman started having trouble with his voice. Finally seeking medical attention, he and the band decided to postpone most of their scheduled concerts. Heeding doctors' orders, Draiman is now off alcohol and watches what he eats. In 2006, the band was on the road again.
