About
Dishwalla, named after the Indian guys that uses illegal equipment to be able to share television signals around their neighborhood, is actually a post-grunge band that hit the spotlight in 1996 with sensational hit “Counting Blue Cars”.
It is a five-man band composed originally of Jim Wood (keyboards), Rodney Browning Cravens (lead guitar), J.R. Richards (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), George Pendercast (drums), and Scot Alexander (bass).
In 1995, they released their debut breakout album entitled Pet Your Friends under A&M which was popularized by gritty single Counting Blue Cars. After which they toured successfully behind the album and around the country with the Goo Goo Dolls, Blind Melon and Sheryl Crow.
Follow up album And You Think You Know What Life’s All About was released in 1998 but was not as popular and did not sell as good as the first one partly due to label downsizing. George Pendercast left the band as the band signs up with another record company Immergent. Pete Maloney takes over the percussion work and was part of that year’s tour.
The band made several television appearances including a stint in the series ‘’’Charmed’’’ and became part of two episodes of the show. The band had a constant fan-following and stayed in the limelight fairly well.
Third album Opaline set foot in the music scene and appeared with an experimental, acoustic approach. Fans loved it and thus a great move for the band! Live...Greetings From The Flow State became available in the market in 2003 and was their last release under Immergent Records. In 2005, comes their self-titled album accompanied by a new record company: Orphanage.
The band has made perfectly cool music even from day one. They are not afraid to move beyond their comfort zone—all the more reason to watch out for them in the years to come!
