Digable Planets was formed in New York City in 1992. The group comprised of "Ishmael Butler", "Craig Irving", a member of "Dread Poets Society" and "Mary Ann Veiera". Their debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) was released in 1993. The album chartered #5 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #15 on Top Billboard 200 Albums Chart. It also features the single, "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," which landed at #15 on Billboard Magazine's Singles Chart. The track deservedly earned the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
Their second album, Blowout Comb was released in 1994. It chartered at #13 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. In 1996, due to their indifferences, the group has decided to separate. Ishmael formed a new band called, Cherrywine. Mary Ann had released her solo album in 2005. However, after a decade of break up, the group had their reunion in February 2005. They also released their compilation album, Beyond the Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicles in October 2005.
