About
Devo was formed in 1971 at Akron, Ohio. Two of the original members, "Gerald Casale" and Bob Lewis" met at Kent State University were both of them are students. They decided to formed a band and so they recruited "Mark Mothersbaugh", "Bob Mothersbaugh" and "Jim Mothersbaugh". Jim left the band and was replaced by "Alan Myers". Alan produced a 10-minute video clip entitled The Truth About De-Evolution, which won a prize at the Ann Arbor Film Festival in 1975.
They released their first single, "Jocko Jomo" in 1977. Their single, "Satisfaction" increased the band’s growing cult and garnered the group a record deal with Warner Bros. Their debut album, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! was released in 1978 under Warner Brother Records. It was a great big hit. Their next album, Duty Now For The Future was relased in 1979. Their next album, Freedom of Choice was released in 1980 which features their singnature hit single, "Whip It" which chartered at #14 on Billboard Chart. The single sold one million copies. It also features the single, "Secret Agent Man".
Other albums released was, New Tradionalist in 1981, Oh, No! It's Devo in 1982 and Shout in 1984. After their albums barely hit the chart, Alan left the band. For two years, the band went hiatus. The band reformed in 1987. "David Kendrick" replaced Alan Myers in 1988. The same year they released their album, Total Devo which barely charted. Their last album, Smooth Noodle Maps failed to chart. After their show in 1991, they decided to separate. Most of the members went solo.
