About

In 1967, Chris Curtis called London businessman Tony Edwards to build and manage a new group he called Roso. He got Jon Lord to be the organist. He also recruited Ritchie Blackmore to be their guitarist. On the way of building a new group, Chris soon quit in continuing building a new band but Jon and Ritchie continued to build it. They got Nick Samper to be their bassist, Rod Evans as their vocalist and Ian Paice as there drummer. They were a former member of The Maze.

In 1968, they had performed on a brief tour in Denmark. Ritchie suggested that they changed their name to Deep Purple to which all the members agreed. They released their debut albul Shades of Deep Purple in October 1968. They had gained some success and released a follow up album mostly of which became hit. Machine Head is one of their successful albums.

In 1976, they decided to disband the group because almost of the members are already quitting from the band.

In 1984, eight years after they disbanded, a reunion of the band happened. It was announced on the radio that Ritchie, Jon and Ian were reforming and recording a new material. Deep Purple had signed a recording contract with Polydor Records. Their combacking album, Perfect Strangers was released in October 1984 which sold extremely well. After that, they decided to retain the group and more follow up albums. Deep Purple still continues to tour around the globe up to this time.
