Deborah Gibson better known as Debbie Gibson was born on August 31, 1970 in Long Island, New York.

At the age of 6, Debbie began composing a songs,the likes of Make Sure You Know Your Classroom and I Come From America and won 1,000 dollars in a songwriting contest, prompting her parents to sign a management contract with Doug Brithart. Brithart taught Debbie how to arrange, engineer and produce records.

At an early age, Debbie had already been experienced in theatre by playing a part in stage plays such as A Christmas Carol, Annie and Mickey Mouse and Friends. She was also part of the Metropolitan Opera for several years, doing opera's like Hansel and Gretel, La Boheme and La Rossignol some of which meant singing in foreign language.

While Debbie was still in high school, she got her first recording contract with Atlanta Records and began recording her debut album which Fred Zarr produced. Late 1986, Debbie's first single, Only in My Dreams was released, a song which she composed in 1983, which became a big hit and climbed to number four. It was followed by a dance-oriented single, Shake Your Love peaked at number 4 of the charts, it also became a hit in some international countries.

After 6 months of hardwork and performing at various clubs, her debut album, Out of The Blue was released in the fall of 1987, and by the spring of 1988,the album make it to theAmerican top ten. The title track climbed into number three and it was followed by her first number one single, Foolish Beat making Debbie Gibson the youngest artist in chart history to have written, produced and performed a number one song and claimed her as a young phenomenal diva worldwide. The album went triple platinum.

Even when she was already making a name in the music industry, Debbie still managed to continue her schooling and graduated it with honors in Calhover High School in Merrick, New York.

Her first single, Lost in Your Eyes from her second album, Electric Youth, became Debbie's biggest hit in early 1989 staying at number one for three weeks. Her next single, Electric Youth in the spring of 1989, hit also the number one spot, staying five weeks at the top of the charts. However, at the end of the year,Debbie's popularity was beginning to fall down because her third single, We Could Be Together did not make it to the charts.

At the end of 1990, her third album, Anything is Possible was released, peaking it at only number 41. In 1992, she released her next album, Body Mind Soul which only produced a one minor hit single, Losin' Myself.

After the release of her fourth album, Body Mind Soul Debbie made her broadway debut, as she played the lead role Eponine in the musical, Les Miserables. She continued her career in theatre by portraying the role as Sandy in the musical play entitled Grease in London West End for a period of nine months.

Debbie returned to the music scene in 1995, releasing a duet with the Soft Boys with the Los Angeles punk band, The Circle Jerks entitled "I Wanna Destroy You." and she released her fifth album, Think With Your Heart, which once again showed her abilities as a singer, musician, songwriter and a producer. The album contained ballads with Debbie playing the piano accompanied by an Orchestra.

After the release, she went back to theatre and played the role "Betty Rizo" in the National Touring of "Grease" for five months, touring the USA and performing in 19 different cities in a usually sold out theatre.

In the Summer of 1996, Debbie re-launched her name to Deborah Gibson which was her real name and released her sixth studio album, Deborah

After which, Deborah went back again to theatre and starred as "Fanny Brice" in a brief revival of the musical "Funny Girl". After that, she was cast in the Broadway Musical, Beauty and the Beast as Belle for nine months followed by a starred role as Gypsy Rose Lee in the Papermill Playhouse Production of Gypsy. She was the narrator in the US Touring Production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and the title role in the US touring Production of Cinderella.

In 2001, Deborah released her seventh album M.Y.O.B. Besides composing a song for her album, she also produced material for several artists like Chris Cuevas, Ana, The Party and Jobeth Taylor and participated on "Various Artist" albums for the benefit of charities.

Deborah is not only a singer,producer and a songwriter, She also supports several charities, among which are the Pediatric Aids Foundation, The Make-A-Wish Foundation and St. Mary's Children and Families Foundation which is a home for abused, orphaned and neglected children.

In 2005, Deborah surprised the public when she posed naked for the issue of Playboy Magazine.
